Abstract:
In modern supply chains, inventory management is crucial to ensure smooth operations, meet customer demand, and minimise costs. Multi-echelon inventory control (MEIC) focuses on managing inventory across multiple stages, including suppliers, warehouses, and retailers. Unlike single-echelon systems, MEIC considers interdependencies among echelons, enabling better decision-making regarding stock levels, order quantities, and replenishment policies. This paper develops a detailed mathematical model for multi-echelon inventory control, incorporating stochastic demand, lead times, and service-level constraints. Using a numerical example of a three-echelon supply chain, we demonstrate the practical application of the model, highlighting the reduction in total inventory cost and improved service levels. The study provides actionable insights for supply chain managers and emphasises the importance of integrated inventory strategies in complex supply networks.
