Legal Issues Relating to Revenge Porn and Morphing Crimes Against Women in India

Abstract
Rapid advancements in the use of digital communication technology have enabled various ways of committing acts of gender-based violence, with non-consensual pornography also known as revenge pornography and the manipulation and morphing of images becoming significant forms of cyber violence against women.
This paper will provide a doctrinal analysis of the legislation of India that addresses these issues. An assessment is being made of the adequacy of the laws of the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 in responding to the damage committed by these violations. The work will also highlight judicial interpretations on this matter, point out limitations and flaws in current legislation, and put forth India’s legal stance in an international context of human rights.
